LO ’25

Landscape improvement project in the Leningrad Region
May 2025
The landscape design project for the garden “Lo ’25” is located in the Leningrad Region. The plot area is 20 sotkas.

The plot is forested, with a large number of mature coniferous and deciduous trees. The above‑ground forest cover is rich in mosses, lichens, berry bushes, and mushrooms. The most important task in working on this forest garden project is to preserve the natural flora and fauna of the plot and to maintain a balance between the built‑up area and the natural forest zone. The owner of the forest garden approached me when he purchased the plot to assess it, determine the optimal layout for the main house, and discuss the placement of a sauna on the property. All his wishes were successfully implemented during the design process.

The region has a climate that transitions from maritime to moderately continental: mild winters with frequent thaws and moderately warm summers.

The main objective of the project is to create a unique forest garden that, combined with the massive wooden architecture of the main house, will reflect the peaceful lifestyle and values of its owner.

The northern boundary of the plot adjoins a centuries‑old forest. To ensure visual unity and incorporate the borrowed landscape to the benefit of the Garden Owner, it was decided not to install a fence here. Instead of a barrier, a quiet recreation area was created, featuring a platform made of wooden planks on metal piles, in order to preserve the natural cover as much as possible and to comfortably cross the forest stream along the way.

In order to please the main idea of the forest garden is the preservation of the existing flora and fauna of the site, all the architectural objects is the main house and bathhouse, as well as the functional areas of the garden are located nearby and are united by a common canvas of a terrace made of natural wood, a species of larch.

The hearth zone has found a place between the main house and the sauna, which ensures the comfort of its use in various scenarios of the Owner's life. The hearth bowl is removed to a safe distance from the wooden facades and roof overhangs. It is made of polished stainless steel. This material perfectly reflects the surrounding landscape and its individual elements.

The summer kitchen is another wish of the client. A stationary outdoor gas grill, mini refrigerator, and sink provide a high level of convenience for outdoor cooking. The dining area for 10 people is designed for warm gatherings with relatives and friends.
